“Developing Your Playing Style”

A two day workshop for tenor and plectrum banjo

Buddy is presenting a new workshop entitled ‘Developing your playing style’ which is an intermediate level follow-up course to his acclaimed two-day workshop,’Listen to the Music Speak.’

Dates: Wednesday, March 23rd and Thursday, March 24th

Time: 9:00am to 5:00pm

Cost: $200 per person

Topics covered will include:

  • Developing your ability to play by ear  – Hearing chord patterns
  • Intros, turn-arounds, modulations and endings
  • Using substitutions and enhancing chord changes
  • Accompanying Chord harmony on the fingerboard
  • Building alternate and advanced chord shapes
  • Voice leading
  • Using the harmonized scale
  • Creating better chord melody solos
  • Developing your solo playing
  • Improvisation: Tapping in to your own creative ability
  • Developing basic licks over common chord patterns
  • Fill-ins
  • Position playing
  • Mixing single notes with two, three and four string chords
  • Developing improvisational routines
  • Getting the most from your right hand by weaving syncopation, duo style, broken chord strokes, and single notes into your playing style
  • An examination of the Peabody, Reser and Bechtel styles
  • How to accompany in different music situations
  • How and what to practice to produce results
